Camping Tips: Are There Any Campgrounds in Las Vegas ?

There are 3 words that I didn’t think I would ever say in a single sentence : Las Vegas camping.  Somehow the terms just don’t seem to go together very well.  This is perhaps why I told my hubby he was crazy when he claimed that he prepared a Las Vegas camping trip last year.

When most of us think about Las Vegas, campgrounds aren’t the very first thing that comes to mind.  With all the top Vegas hostels available, all the casinos and shows, most of us never think about this as a destination even if we love the great outdoors.  However, as well as being one of the finest resorts for travellers who prefer to live the high life, Vegas is also one of the finest places to enjoy the great outside.  Las Vegas camping is truly top-quality.

Of course, Las Vegas camp grounds vary really significantly in quality, so you’ve got to do the research meticulously.  Las Vegas camping is only actually a good idea if you’re there for more than just the shows, nightlife and casinos. Naturally, you should have a day or two in town but the main reason for camping should be the outdoor attractions that you will find in the proximity of your campsite. The reality is, if you’d like good Vegas camping at an inexpensive price, you have to get well outside the town boundaries.  Otherwise, all you’ll find will be drive-in camping at far higher prices than you really should have to pay.  The best Vegas camping is along one of the rivers that flow thru the state of Nevada.  For instance, you can kayak below the Hoover dam on the Colorado River.  There’s a profusion of camping sites in Las Vegas, but unless you have a specific area under consideration , or you are looking for a camping holiday that includes a trip to a show or casino then there are much nicer places for you to take your vacation.

The reason for that is that Vegas camping can be a bit rough.  The weather will invariably be very hot, and there is a lack of the cool shady wooded areas that the general public prefer on their camping trips.  This isn’t to assert that you need to give up on Vegas camping.  It can offer its own rewards, but it’s not for the faint of heart.  You would do much better camping up in the Northwest if you’re attempting to find a good first outdoor destination.

Spending day after day in the desert can be a truly trying experience for a novice camper.  Vegas camping, in fact , requires some of the most careful preparations that you can imagine.  If you’re going to go into the desert to camp, you want to bring lots of water, the right food, and the right clothing.  Keeping cool when doing Vegas camping is nearly a matter of survival.  If you do not manage to do it, you may lose your strength quickly.  You may be marooned miles and miles from civilization.  Things can get extremely bleak very quickly in the desert, so be forewarned and be prepared.  Some may suggest that you wear long sleeves and relaxed fit slacks to keep the sun off your skin, you might want to put that recommendation aside.  The first day of our Vegas camping journey was really uncomfortable particularly since I was dressed from head to toes.

Wear shorts and a t-shirt.  Trust me.  You may expect to do a lot of walking in the Las Vegas camping trip and you really want to keep cool.  Or you might end up feeling tired and uncomfortable.

With all of the walking concerned on a Las Vegas camping excursion you really want to invest in shoes that keep your feet happy.  I revealed that my shoes were the cream of the crop and my feet were thanking me even on day one.  Shoes are just some of the most vital points to think about when arranging your Vegas camping trip.

Do not forget your sunscreen.  The sun is always shining.  Okay, there’s the occasional downpour that comes out of the blue but the rain leaves as fast as it comes.  I have never seen anything like it.  Sunscreen is a total must on your Las Vegas camping holiday.

There is a similar site on the same topic about the adjoining county, holiday parks in Dorset. When visiting Britain we suggest that you hire a car in the UK.
